PIANC－Japan Online Seminar 2021

PIANC-Japan hosted a seminar on October 26, 2021, featuring four latest topics on the port, fishing port and maritime sector such as

-Carbon Neutral Port Initiative in Japan, from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)

- Formulation of a new long-term plan for development of Fisheries Infrastructure, from Fisheries Agency

- Gi-CIM: Visualization Technique for Ground Improvement from Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd (Platinum Partner of PIANC).

- PIANC MarCom WG208 Report "Planning for Automation of Container Terminals", from Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI).

Nearly 200 people attended the seminar and actively participated in question and answer sessions following the four presentations. This second PIANC-Japan seminar was held online. This seminar was open for free to PIANC-Japan members as well as non-members, to promote PIANC activities in Japan.

Following opening remarks by Mr. Mitsuhiko Okada, Vice president of PIANC and President of PIANC-Japan, Mr. Kimihiko Endo, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs, Ports and Harbors Bureau, MLIT, gave a guest speech. From Fisheries Agency, Mr. Jun Yokoyama, Director of Construction Division, Fisheries Infrastructure Department, gave closing remarks. Both guests of honor remotely participated in the seminar from their offices. We would like to express our gratitude to the speakers, guests of honor, Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd., Nikken Kogaku Co., Ltd., and other port related organizations for their cooperation in making this seminar a great success.

PIANC-Japan will continue to actively engage in research activities on waterborne transport infrastructure with the cooperation of all concerned parties.
