PIANC Asian Seminar 2021 (Report)

PIANC-Japan successfully held the PIANC Asian Seminar 2021

Since 2021 is the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, PIANC-Japan decided to feature coastal disaster prevention in the first Asian Seminar it has ever hosted, and invited first-class researchers and experts from Asian countries on the subject. With the support of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the Fisheries Agency and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a total of 255 people from 27 countries/regions participated in the Seminar and gained a deeper understanding of coastal disaster prevention. About half of the participants were from countries other than Japan (large overseas audience from Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Malaysia), demonstrating the potential of a webinar to extend the reach of PIANC activities to people we have never contacted before.
