PIANC-Cambodia Seminar was held in Phnom Penh on 24-25 October 2019.

The first PIANC-Cambodia Seminar was organised on 24-25 October 2019 in Phnom Penh for disseminating the PIANC worldwide network and more than a century of expertise.

The Cambodian ports joined the PIANC family again in September 2018 and have been taking steps for: i) nominating Technical Committee representatives, ii) establishing a National Section in Cambodia, and iii) inviting Individual and Corporate Members.

In this context, the first PIANC-Cambodia Seminar was organised on 24-25 October 2019 in Phnom Penh for disseminating the PIANC worldwide network and more than a century of expertise. Ninety-four experts in the area of port and inland waterway infrastructure development, operation and management, public administrations, navigation safety and environment control were represented during the event. Among the seminar topics were the development, operation and management of: i) inland waterway infrastructure, and ii) deepwater seaports. PIANC Vice-President, Mr Hiroshi Hayashida and Mr H.E. Eang Vensun from the Cambodian government delivered the opening addresses, which were followed by a general briefing on PIANC provided by the Secretary-General of the Association, Mr Geert Van Cappellen.

Professor Ligteringen of Delft University of Technology was invited as a keynote lecturer, and Mr Jean-Marc Deplaix, Mr Hem Ramrav and Mr Madoca Ikemach, as well as PIANC experts from Belgium, France and Japan also took the floor. Many Cambodian experts also gave presentations in terms of local technical and administrative topics.

The seminar is considered to encourage the Cambodian port community further to tackle its challenges by actively participating in PIANC activities.
